General Motors Files for Bankruptcy Protection General Motors filed for bankruptcy protection June 1. The U.S. automaker follows Lehman Bros. and WorldCom as the third-biggest bankruptcy in U.S. history. Looper Reed & McGraw attorney Rosa Orenstein was interviewed on Dallas's KRLD Radio and KTRH Houston Radio about what GM faces.

Rosa Rodriguez Orenstein, an AV rated lawyer, specializes in bankruptcy, creditors' rights, workouts and commercial transactions. She has practiced in these areas for approximately twenty-five (25) years. In that time she has been involved in a wide range of bankruptcy, workout and commercial cases relating to all types of assets. As a partner at Gardere & Wynne, Ms. Orenstein consummated major multimillion dollar Chapter 11 plans of reorganization, and successfully defended lender clients against equitable subordination multimillion dollar claims.

Ms. Orenstein's experience includes acting as counsel to debtors, trustees, secured and unsecured creditors, equity holders committees, unsecured creditors committees and purchasers of assets from bankruptcy estates. Equally important, she has considerable experience as a courtroom advocate including jury trial experience in fraudulent conveyance cases. Ms. Orenstein has been involved in several published cases, including Southmark v. Marley (62 F. 3rd 104), in which she successfully represented a former officer and director of Southmark Corporation against preferential transfer claims alleged by Southmark. The favorable decision obtained by Ms. Orenstein was upheld by the Federal District Court, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
